Why is australia so hot

The country saw its hottest day ever on Wednesday, with a record. The earth’s tilt has the southern hemisphere pointed almost directly at the sun during the day…nearly the longest day amongst the longest days that occur in the southern hemisphere. So southern hemisphere lands are receiving more solar heating. This moves north-west and north-east with the seasons.

The climate is variable, with frequent droughts lasting several seasons, thought to be caused in part by the El Niño-Southern Oscillation. That’s so hot that the human body is incapable of producing sweat to get rid of heat, making it dangerous even for healthy, fit people to stay outside for any length of time.

Offshore sea temperatures have also been uncharacteristically warm. When it’s in positive mode — as now — it can contribute towards drier conditions in the south east. Heat records fell in Queensland during spring including at Birdsville. Picture: Bureau of Meteorology.

So just as the Gulf Stream keeps the British Isles several degrees warmer than they would otherwise be (there are even a few palms in southern Ireland), the E. Both major political parties announced more funding for tourism this week. New Zealand is a much more comfortable choice. Plus, they might not be moving to an expensive major city. During summer, the outback is very hot and humid – some days have seen temperatures as high as 50°C. Unknown to many, the outback can experience below freezing temperatures during the winter months.

An additional reason is the abnormally high intensity of sun radiation which makes this risk even bigger. Hobart had a maximum of 38. Sandstorms come from the desert as well. This time of the year is summer and is the best time to get in to the water.

In December, the southern hemisphere is tilted towards the Sun, receiving more hours of sunshine and is therefore warmer. Most now have no hat no play rules. Bear in mind that at least some of the skin cancer stats for places like New York probably reflect people going on holidays to hot climates and getting burnt.

The drought, catastrophic bushfires and now the global Covid-pandemic. Gaps in community and household resilience coincided with a huge spike in folks wanting to know about backyard food production, sustainable living and permaculture.
