Owner or lessee

Is it lessee or leasee? What is the difference between a lease and a license? Who is the lessor and lessee? Is the lessor the landlord?


As nouns the difference between owner and lessee is that owner is one who owns (something) while lessee is an individual or a corporation who has the right of use of something of value, gained through a lease agreement with the real owner of the property.

During the contract, the lessor retains the right of ownership of the property and is entitled to receive periodic payments from the lessee based on their initial agreement. There are two parties to the lease , known as the lessor and the lessee. The lessee is the party that uses the asset over a specific period of time and pays a rental in exchange for the asset use.


The lessor is the owner of the asset that rents the asset. The lessee is also known as the tenant and must uphold specific obligations as defined in the lease agreement and by law.
