First, here is what the official UK government employment advice says: Employers who want to employ children or young people under school. The maximum hours you can work in a week is hours. With hours between each shift you do.

Young workers cannot usually be made to work more than eight hours a day or hours a week.

There are some exceptions to these rules. An employer cannot insist that a worker works more than hours per week on average. Any more than this is voluntary and subject to an opt-out agreement. Note that for night workers, there is a maximum of eight hours work in any hours on average and a right to free health assessments. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), if you are or older, your employer can require you work 12-hour days.
