Auskey and asic key

What is the ASIC key used for? How do I request an ASIC key? Can I access our ASIC Connect service using my auskey? Is it possible to create an auskey account? Each business name will have its own unique ASIC key.


The key is sent to you when you register a new business name or renew your existing registration. Requesting an ASIC key. You can request an ASIC key by using our online service, ASIC Connect. Your ASIC key is used to link your business name, SMSF auditor, or authorised representative to your ASIC Connect account.


You will be asked if you have an ASIC key for your business. For a business name holder. Select the correct name from the list of matching or similar. A corporate key is a unique 8-digit number linked to a specific company.

If you are an AFS licensee or authorised representative, you need an ASIC key to update your details online. If you need to install on more than one PC, there are links on the ATO website for obtaining additional keys. Tax agents will be very familiar with the AUSKey security access method that has been used as the gateway to the former tax agent portal and now Online Services for Agents.


The AUSKey method of access has been used for many years but the ATO is very concerned with the lack of security of this method in relation to the current technological world. Whirlpool is the only reliable source if info on how to run Auskey on a mac. Must say Auskey works 2x better in a VM, Windows or Linux. AusKey running in a Xubuntu VM is way better and faster than in either Win XP or Win VMs.
